Town Hall #3: Visioning to Reality
Dear LA Chinatown Community Members and Supporters,
While summer is coming to a close, we’re picking up some momentum in building internal capacity, strategic planning and community engagement. Please read along to meet our new Fellow, RSVP to our celebration (9/20), and consider running or nominating someone for our board of directors!
LATEST NEWS
Thanks for joining Town Hall #3!
30+ people attended and shared feedback on our mission, goals and objectives. There was rich dialogue through perspectives of tenants, landlords and funders. We also brought our strategic plan to life with a fun, hands-on activity. Community members joined us for a live simulation where we put our mission and values to the test in a Vote & Budget Challenge.
Introducing Kaelyn Ong
We hired our first Community Engagement and Research Fellow, Kaelyn Ong! This is a huge step towards building capacity within the CLT, and we’re thankful to the LISC/AmeriCorps program. Kaelyn (she/they) is excited to be the Community Engagement and Research Fellow at LA Chinatown CLT. Growing up supporting her family's youth arts program in the San Gabriel Valley, she is passionate about supporting immigrant communities toward their visions of self-determination, equity, and sustainability. She’s grateful to be here and learning alongside the dedicated Chinatown community builders.
Kaelyn recently graduated from the Urban Studies program at Stanford, where they researched and wrote a capstone on Asian American community building in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles. She has worked with communities in public space visioning at the Little Tokyo Service Center, sustainability research at Sustainable San Mateo County, and urban design with the Duboce Triangle Neighborhood Association. Kaelyn also enjoys making art in community: improv, dance, and theater, but most of all, telling stories together.

OTHER COMMUNITY NEWS AND EVENTS
Stop the Gondola Campaign
We attended the press conference on August 18th to push back against Section 3 in SB 71, which would have provided a special fast-track for the gondola. After the community rallied and pressured the state legislature, Section 3 was just removed last week!
Check out the Stop the Gondola campaign website to learn more and take action.
