LA Chinatown Community Land Trust (LACCLT) is hiring our first Community Engagement and Research LISC AmeriCorps Fellow.

LACCLT is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that preserves affordable housing and the cultural fabric of Los Angeles’s Chinatown community, while promoting neighborhood stability. We ensure that working class community members are able to stay in the community and not be displaced by new development.

We are hiring for our first paid position, which is a 5-month, part-time fellowship made possible through Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), AmeriCorps, and LACCLT. The fellowship is scheduled for August 1 - December 31, 2025, and the fellow must serve a minimum of 450 hours.

The fellow will typically serve ~21 hours a week in a mostly hybrid environment, with in-person engagement events. Fellowship activities can be done during and outside of traditional working hours. Our working board and committees often meet at 5:30 pm or later on weekdays. 

The fellow will have one main supervisor, and collaborate closely with other board members and committees on various projects reflected in the description below:

FELLOWSHIP DESCRIPTION

Community Engagement / Marketing + Design Activities (~65%)

  • Plan, attend, and facilitate outreach events such as tabling, tenant, landlord, community member and CBO outreach events, other CLT events

  • Create event planning meeting templates and guidance documents

  • Create educational materials and graphics which could include our general brochure, 1-page summary, membership model, business card, website.

Property Management Research Assessment Activities (25%)

  • Lead a research project focused on strategies to de-risk early-stage property acquisitions by Community Land Trusts (CLTs); inclusive of access to quick-strike acquisition capital, credit enhancements, and intermediary partnerships

  • Examine the gap in long-term support for CLTs’ community stewardship responsibilities—such as resident organizing, participatory governance, and neighborhood accountability.

  • The final deliverable (e.g., case studies, landscape scan, and actionable recommendations) will be a tangible, publishable piece to be showcased.

Fundraising Activities (10%)

  • Research and provide application support for funding opportunities

  • Help coordinate logistics to implement fundraising events

QUALIFICATIONS

AmeriCorps Requirements

  • Be at least 17 years of age.

  • Be a U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States of America.

  • Must participate in a national service criminal history background check

  • Have a high school diploma or its equivalent.

Strongly preferred

  • 2-year AA degree from an accredited college or university

  • Experience working in a professional office or virtual office setting

  • Past service experience in Chinatown, Los Angeles (e.g. volunteering, community service, lived experience)

  • Knowledge or experience in affordable housing, real estate, urban planning, ethnic studies, public health, or related field

  • One year of relevant experience related to community outreach, developing education materials, leading a research project and/or fundraising

  • Be a self-starter, have project management skills, experience working on multiple projects with different team leads
